A discussion on how we can connect global issues with local realities. How the sometimes abstract concept of sustainability is in 2019, relevant to all businesses. Thoughts on the roles of new technology and collaboration along value chains in helping businesses and cities to become more integrated and function more like ecosystems.
In this workshop, we will give historical context to the sustainability movement and talk about what has brought it to where it is today. We will touch on the complexity of climate science, the things scientists know vs things scientists think they know, and other environmental issues that stand outside the “climate debate.”
Environmental issues have been overused as a marketing tool, with the science behind measuring environmental impacts working hard to catch up. Today we have reached the point where environmental considerations are no longer simply a trend that has captured the interest of a select group of people, but a fundamental aspect of doing business as evidenced by increasing investor demands.
We will discuss some of the reasons why this is the case, with participants offering their own insights, and what businesses can do to capitalize on the opportunities provided by alternative business metrics and the novel ways of thinking brought on by the sustainability movement.
